This sturdy little 1949 Plymouth Special Deluxe two door sedan was in a private collection. It is reliable and practical. With obvious patina, it's an affordable, fun way to get started in the greatest hobby. There just aren't many solid, running and driving old cars left in this price range.

Finished in green, this sedan has an old fashioned '40s look and just the right amount of patina to make it care-free. It hasn't been restored, obviously, but the finish is clinging to the bodywork well enough that if you like the patina you can safely leave it alone. It retains all its original chrome and trim, most of which is stainless steel so it can be buffed and polished to a high shine without an expensive trip to the chrome shop. The parts that are chrome, including the bumpers and hood ornament, show some light pitting but are in good enough shape to just leave them alone. It's not a show car, but the way it looks is appealing just the same and you'll never have to fret about bugs, rain, or dirt while having fun behind the wheel.

The interior is in good condition, and it appears that it is completely original. Traditional patterns were used but nothing is over-done. The Plymouth has a surprising amount of room inside and the no-nonsense vibe is appealing today. Original carpets are showing their age. Note, that all the original garnish moldings and door hardware has been retained and while there's some flaking, it looks honest. The dash is full of dials with individual round housings for the various instruments, and this car carries accessories like an AM radio and under-dash heater/defroster, which were a big deal in the mid-40s. The trunk is lined in a piece of cast-off carpet and carries a full-sized spare, just in case.

Plymouth's 3.6-liter 97 horse inline-six is a big overachiever, delivering peppy performance around town thanks to a set of steep gears in back (back then there were no interstate highways and cars rarely saw more than 50 MPH). The engine bay is tidy and authentic, showing original parts like the oil bath air cleaner and 6-volt generator. The engine runs beautifully and It fires up easily and idles with a nice six-cylinder grumble from the single exhaust. It has been regularly serviced and maintained, and the 3-speed manual transmission shifts cleanly. These are nice cars to drive! Finally, it's finished with fresh Goodyear radials on the original wheels, so get ready to hit the road.

If your interests run to early MOPARs, this Plymouth makes a fantastic starter car for your collection. Parts are still easy to find, it's easy to drive and there are enthusiasts everywhere.

"It has been two months to the day, since I took delivery of my '64 Studebaker. I am so happy to have her in my garage, in Albany, NY. My purchase experience with you and Masterpiece Vintage Cars was nothing short of "outstanding." As you know I am first time classic car buyer, and so I was very nervous purchasing a classic car sight unseen, some 1200 miles away in Indiana, and from a firm I had no previous knowledge of. Well, from the outset of my dealings with you, you made me feel comfortable talking to you. Thank you for patiently answering every one of my questions and for helping me understand every step of this process. You made it so easy! In summary the car (64 Studebaker Daytona) was exactly as you advertised and described to me. The photos on your website were spot on, absolutely no discrepancies with what was presented to me and then delivered to my home. The financials and transaction paperwork process went very smoothly and subsequently the registering and plating of my '64 Studebaker in New Your state took only 20 minutes. The shipment of new 'old classic car' to my home went perfectly. I do not have a single complaint. I could go on and on as to how pleased I am with my purchase of a classic Studebaker, however I have to get back to work. I will close by saying thank you so much for making my purchase such a smooth and great experience. I find myself looking at your website every day, looking to purchase another classic car from you. I have the classic car collectors bug, and you are the reason for it."
